Nonetheless, I still give Drive a B or B+ for atmosphere, music and some good scenes and a decent attempt at creating a man-with-no-name samurai wheelman character, but except for the elevator head-stomping scene and the hammering the hands scene, I felt that it was not sufficiently original or classic or deep, just a fairly blatant attempt at trying to have both worlds, a cult film and a mainstream film, built on the vision of writers and directors who came before.Īll GTA V fans must watch "Into The Night" (1985)Īll GTA V fans must watch "Blues Brothers" (1980)Īnd a bunch of other ones people mentioned above.Watches Seiko Watches Citizen Watches Casio Watches Bulova Watches Fossil Watches Jewelry-Watches Invicta Watches, Men's Watches, Women's Watches The director pretentiously, un-originally, and consciously built scenes around these references, to manipulate the film-art crowd and make them swoon over the movie at the film festivals, turning it from a little indie movie into a mainstream (attempt at a) hit. Somewhere else in this forum, I called "Drive" a ham-handed homage to several classic films including Taxi Driver, The Driver, Bullitt and Fistful of Dollars. When you get to the meat and potatoes its just lacking. I guess that's why I was so disappointed. The vibe and sound track of the movie was awesome. It's more about the music, the 80s vibe and the heroic symbolism of the main character than the plot itself. Maybe I'm in the minority but I hated the movie.
